Rome - Part 1

Rome, the beautiful...
For my 30th birthday, I certainly didn't want to cook for friends and family. So, I asked (I know it's quite rude to ask) as a birthday present to my lover a small trip to Rome. I adore Italia, Italians, the food, the style, the architecture. Considering the amount of pasta that I eat, I should have been Italian.
I haven't been there since I was 14, and my hubby never set a foot there. To enlighten you on our way of traveling, we are planning a minimum our trip. We leave with only a bnb or a place to stay, we know the main attractions, but we don't know how we will go, and in which way the visit will happen.

Piazza Venezia - the Altar of Fatherland
Day 1 : departure from Marseille, under a gorgeous wintery sun: we took the road from St Félix to Marseille. Short flight of an hour and half, and here we are in Rome. In fact, the airport of Rome, it's a scam, you find yourself 50 km from town. As we didn't plan a thing, we had to take a quick decision and decided to take the train (not the express) to go to the city. As usual, railways (no matter the country), give you a great first impression. You find yourself in the worst places in Rome, and as we were stingy, we stopped in a really popular district. It's in those kind of places, that you realize that Italia is in crisis. But it is funny.

our small street (forgot the name)
We were looking forward to drop our tiny suitcase in our Airbnb studio to enjoy Rome and moreover to avoid to make them roll on those damed pavement (gorgeous, but so noisy with wheels : they hadn't thought of everything those Romans). Small trip in tramway, and without surprise, we missed our stop, but it doesn't matter... We decide to stop at Piazza Venezia. We are discovering a gorgeous Rome under a blue sky (small reminder, it is the 19th december). Thankful to our best friend, the GPS, we find the direction to our studio and we are walking for more than 3 km on those damned pavement. We discover Rome, churches at every corner, noises. Then, we find our way in a perfect based street (I had the good idea to require a bnb in the center to my hubby), in a typical studio (really cute) in a backyard of a building, a hiding kitchen, a funny bathroom (yes, we had to shower on top of the toilet). A big nap calls us, we aren't giving in (the excess of confidence of tourists !).

Hunger was too strong, we went finally to have lunch in one of the numerous restaurants surrounding our place (not more than 5 steps, lazy people that we are). Nothing fabulous : bruschetta and pasta (good but nothing more). I was in a way quite disappointed, but didn't say a word to my dear one. But the place was so charming. It was late 16:00 when we finished to have lunch. But we had to enjoy the time to rediscover each other, and to live like romans.

Marches d'Espagne
We decided to explore the district, and the city center, without any objective.  By hazard, we arrived at the Pantheon. It was love at first sight for Stefan. We visited this magic place, went to Piazza Navona, walked by twice the Trevi fountain (which was out of water and hidden behind curtains), climbed the steps of Spain, et got lost in Rome, covered by her best Xmas ornements. A Xmas tree self consciousness invaded myself. Shame on my gorgeous tree, the Italians are way better than me.

Marches d'Espagne
Around 21:00 and by pure hasard, we were back in our street. Quick, quick, before it is closing, we have to buy food for breakfast next morning : Panettone. And as we are in Italy: small San Bitter ( a sparkling bitter soda with the flavors of orange zest) and Parma ham. We say to ourselves that it will be good to drop that by the flat and to take a shower before dinner. But as two big sh***, we showered, drank the aperitif, ate the delicious ham, and fall asleep in front of "Joséphine" (a french tv serie) translate in Italian...

the rest in the following episode, my dear non-readers.
